Dorothy Lucas Receives a Congressional Gold Medal ... 66 Years After WASP Disbanded AFV resident Dorothy Lucas was one of more than 25,000 young women who applied to serve their country during WWII as pilots in the WASP program (Women Airforce Service Pilots) in 1943. She was one of only 1074 who graduated. The WASP flew non-combat missions, transporting aircraft to military bases nationwide - thus freeing up the men pilots for flying combat
missions. They flew 60 million miles before the group was deactivated December 20, 1944. (Read More)

Sewing Projects Knit Friendships And Generate $100k for Sharing Thirty-four years ago, a group of AFV I residents got together to sew. It was a pastime they loved and it gave them a chance to explore new sewing skills - knitting, crochet, needlepoint, quilting. The seed they planted has grown over the years into one of the most cherished activities on campus - because of the fellowship, fun, creative outlet ... and the mission that has evolved. (Read More)
