Both AFV communities meet the highest standards of quality for Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs). Both earned national distinction in 1987 as the first military-related retirement community to be accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission. Fewer than 14% of more than 2,500 CCRCs in America are accredited. They created this designation to help consumers recognize seniors' communities which were "financially stable, providing quality care and worth the investment." The CCAC is "the nation's only accrediting body for continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) and other types of continuums of care." As the CCAC points out it, they exist "to help ensure that the nation's retirement communities fulfill their promise of quality, lifetime care to older persons." In 2007, Freedom House, Liberty House and both Health Care Centers earned a rare and significant "zero clinical deficiencies" assessment from the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services-honoring the exceptional facilities and care we offer. The Health Care Center at Village I was San Antonio's first skilled nursing facility to be certified as an Eden Alternative Facility-a mark of top-quality care.
